The long and winding road through the Australian bush brings the traveller to this house in a clearing

on its cool and protected shady southern side. Through the expanse of northern glazing, there is an explosive vista, from the concealed ridgeline, to Lake George nestled below.  The house has the qualities of a living organism that integrates itself into the bush, using thermal mass and northern glazing to absorb energy. It is oriented to be a self-regulating and self-protecting unit.

Defended on three sides with solid, rugged walls, the house is only vulnerable on the north side as it turns its back on the world. This quintessentially Australian design blends the ethos of Balinese spaces and the early Australian homesteads. Linked pavilions create highly functional living spaces including 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, library and large open plan family / kitchen/ dining area that flows out to a beautiful northern courtyard capturing the dramatic view.

Architecturally timeless and elegant, this self-sufficient house provides sustainable energy free living all year round, maintaining a comfortable temperature range of 21-25°C. This inspired adaptation of the eHouse demonstrates the flexibility and capacity to meet different client and site requirements.
